Millet Chilla Mix — Ragi Chilla in 10 Minutes

A chilla is the quickest thing you can cook from a Kiro pouch: premix and water, poured onto a hot tawa. No chopping, no soaking, no batter from scratch. Every pouch is a millet flour, rice flour and besan, which gives 11–13 g of plant protein per 100 g without added protein isolates. Each 300 g pouch makes 8–10 chillas.

The chilla ratio

100 g premix + 120 ml water makes 3 chillas. Whisk to a smooth, pourable batter, rest it 2–3 minutes, pour a ladleful onto a hot tawa and let it settle into a round — a chilla is poured, not spread. Cook both sides until the edges lift. Full method: ragi chilla recipe.

Make it your own

  • Stir chopped onion, tomato, coriander and green chilli into the batter for a masala chilla.
  • Fill it with paneer bhurji or grated vegetables and fold it over.
  • Spread the batter thinner for a dosa-style crepe — see the millet dosa mix ratio.
  • Serve with green chutney, curd or tomato chutney.

Protein per chilla

With 100 g of premix making 3 chillas, each chilla carries about 4.4 g protein from Ragi premix (13.1 g per 100 g), about 4 g from Kangani (12.1 g) and about 3.7 g from Kutki (11 g), before any filling.

Chilla mix questions

Is it a besan chilla mix? Besan is one of the three ingredients, alongside a millet flour and rice flour, so it cooks like the besan chilla you know, with the millet's own flavour.

Can kids eat it? Yes. It has no maida, no added sugar and no preservatives. For children under one, check with your paediatrician first.

What else does the pouch make? Dosa, idli and dhokla, plus bread, cake, pizza bases and waffles — all in the Kiro Cookbook.
